The Village of Delhi has scheduled a Public Hearing on May 24th from 7:15PM to 7:30PM on a law to prohibit the discharge of firearms within the Village.
The proposed law is said to be under consideration so that revenue from tickets under Environmental Conservation Law (500 foot discharge law) will go to the Village instead of the State. However, the law does not even mirror Conservation law nor NYS Law. It calls for the range to be licensed for which there is no range licensing requirement in NYS. Passage of this Law would effectively shut down the Delhi Pistol Club Indoor Range. It would also effectively prohibit hunting any Village property with a firearm, which much of the land surrounding the Village, but within its limits, is indiscernible from the rest of our rural Town and can safely be hunted.
A copy of the proposed law is attached.
